OUR MISSION
The mission of the South Carolina Food Systems Network is to build a thriving local food system in South Carolina through connecting people, sharing information, and promoting effective policy.

BRIEF HISTORY
Beginning in March 2005, a group of volunteers formed a steering committee to begin the discussion and exploration of creating a statewide food policy council that would work towards the improvement and expansion of healthier and more informed food choices by South Carolinians. As a result of the steering committee findings, on March 17, 2006, the SC Food Policy Council (SCFPC) held its first general membership meeting. Over the years, the SCFPC evolved to meet statewide food policy needs, under the umbrellas of statewide institutions such as Clemson University, SC Department of Agriculture, and University of South Carolina.

In 2024, the SCFPC decided to become an independent, 501c3 nonprofit organization. To better reflect the large network of individuals and organizations it serves, the organization was renamed the SC Food Systems Network (SCFSN).

SCFSN serves as a forum for sharing information on programs, initiatives, and policy related to the food system in South Carolina during a series of virtual and in-person member meetings throughout the year. The networking opportunities and the information shared at these meetings benefit the members of the network as they work collectively to build an equitable, accessible, and economically diverse food system in South Carolina.
